What is PDRN, and does it have to come from salmon? If you’ve been searching for a PDRN serum, you’ve probably seen the words salmon DNA everywhere.

PDRN has become one of the most talked-about ingredients in anti-ageing skincare, and because much of its history is associated with salmon-derived DNA, it’s easy to assume that PDRN has to come from salmon.

It doesn’t.

When I developed Celulah Skin’s PDRN DNA Repair Serum, I deliberately chose a non-salmon microbial Sodium DNA produced using biotechnology.

And I didn’t choose it simply because it was different.

One of the most important reasons was its suitability for topical skincare.

That mattered to me.

I wasn’t developing an injectable PDRN treatment.

Microbial PDRN is a biotechnology-derived alternative to traditional fish-derived PDRN.

But source alone isn’t why I chose it.

  • What other ingredients are in the serum?

Because PDRN on the front of a bottle doesn’t tell you everything about what’s inside it.

 

Is Microbial PDRN Better Than Salmon PDRN?

I don’t think it’s responsible to claim that all microbial PDRN is universally better than all salmon PDRN.

Salmon-derived PDRN has an established history and remains widely used.

Microbial PDRN represents a different approach made possible through biotechnology.

What I can tell you is why I chose our particular microbial Sodium DNA for Celulah.

Its non-salmon source appealed to me.

It was developed for cosmetic skincare.

4% Niacinamide

I deliberately chose 4% niacinamide rather than chasing an unnecessarily high percentage for marketing.

More isn’t automatically better in skincare.

A bigger percentage on the front of a bottle doesn’t necessarily mean a better formula.

Hyaluronic acid helps attract and retain water, supporting hydration and contributing to a smoother, plumper-looking skin surface.
